My name is Mirva Pohjonen, but my friends call me Miru. I'm living in Finland, and I'm a 2nd year Interactive Media-student in TAMK University of Applied Sciences. My specialization will be web- and Flash-design.
All in all I'm a very visual person, and drawing is my dearest hobby. It gives me the chance to relieve stress and bring my imagination to life. I've been drawing since early childhood, trying out different techniques throughout the years. In recent years I've mainly concentrated on using markers, copic-markers and Photoshop. I especially love to draw digitally. I mainly draw original concept- and character art and comics, and my biggest inspiration comes from pin up-art, 1950's, manga, Japanese game concept-art and every day life.
Alongside drawing my other hobbies include 1950's fashion, reading manga/reading in general, movies and games. I also love to spend my free time with my closest friends, having a movie or game night or shopping. School takes a lot of my time, but luckily I've found a good balance between studying and my hobbies.
My favorite author is Robin Hobb, and my favorite manga-kas are Kaori Yuki and Yoko Matsushita. I prefer female artists (in any branch of art) because I don't think they get enough attention in art's manly world. In the world of manga, I've become a huge fan of Angel Sanctuary and Yami no Matsuei, and I also read lots of other Kaori Yuki's stories. From other artists I really appreciate Yoji Shinkawa, Freeman Elliot and Ayami Kojima.
In music, I enjoy listening to bands like Goo Goo Dolls, The Baseballs, Mojave and Dixie Chicks and many others. Soundtracks are also important to me, because they're very inspirational when you are drawing.
Lastly I want to thank everyone who has visited my site. Remember to sign the guestbook while you're here! I also want to thank my friends and family for all the support and for tolerating my whining, bitching and emoing. It's true that artistic people are mostly very temperamental and hard to deal with.
And that's Miru in a nutshell.
